Jaden Smith Bends Further Then You Do

Jaden Louis VuittonThe UK’s Daily Mail quips that although 2015 may have been the year Jaden Smith said “yes to the dress,” it also looks like “2016 is the year he will make a career out of it”: Jaden is appearing in ads for Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. In the campaign Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s 17 year old boy is wearing a skirt…and this is getting lots of attention for doing so.

Another stab at androgyny? A move to further fell assumptions? Or maybe Jaden is simply most comfortable in what is currently being called “gender-fluid” clothing by the haute couture community. But picking Jaden, a well-known figure cutting a well-photographed figure, L.V. is arguably counting on this sometime actor’s infamy and social media presence as much as his modeling chops. And as any fashionista will notice, this “Series 4” Louis Vuitton line seems to favor lanky, small-breasted women with very little curves…rather close to Jaden’s body type, in fact.

In the ad titled, “The Heroine” Smith wears an embroidered metal skirt, white top and leather jacket. He is standing among three female models in pictures photographed by Bruce Weber.

But when one wears a white Batman costume to the Kardashian/West wedding, one might wonder at this young man’s motive for dress choice. Jaden is a true Hollywood ‘kid,’ and along with his sister Willow, has been under paparazzi scrutiny all his life. A young man like this welcome’s media attention and knows well how to manipulate it. But as Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière explained in his recent press release about the Series 4 add: “Why does Jaden Smith star in this campaign? He represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender.’

Maybe this is all that needs to be said.

2015 InStyle Awards Strikes Another Blow For Alternate Couture

attends the InStyle Awards at Getty Center on October 26, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Ok, maybe there wasn’t so much latex couture (actually none), yet the 2015 InStyle Awards did have some celebs dressing in alternate couture.

The A-listers showing-up at for this first-of-its-kind event, were sporting all kinds of designers, all kinds of colors and all kinds of looks. Much is being made about Kim Kardashian’s tight white Valentino, which showed off her quite pregnant state, but really it was the cape attached to the ensemble that’s making the net jump today, the day after the event. Alessandra Ambrosio wore an equally white Alexandre Vauthier, but her dress had stratically-placed cut outs, while Gwyneth Paltrow wore a black Schiaparelli gown with a plunging front. But it’s when one comes to both Selena Gomez-sporting a black bra, under a fishnet top and white bubble skirt-Michelle Williams in a black Louis Vuitton leather skirt and Emmy Rossum in pleated leather dress that one sees the fashions went a little left of the mainstream.

It is fun watching these trends…as we have now for the past few years. We’ve stated before and will again surely that what passed as mainstream fashion only a handful of years ago has been turned upside down by what celebrities (and usually women celebrities) dare wear these days. And when we see changes in celebrity fashion from not just younger celebs like Gomez, but just about anyone of any age, you know the time has come for a complete textile art updating.

And let’s face it, we have all seen Kim in her less bulbous days sporting latex, PVC, leather, just about anything when she is dressed or even half dressed. These women know lingerie and latex well, wear it almost all the time, in and out of private events and their bedrooms. Its no surprise what we are seeing these days, but it sure makes a fetish fashionista, or even a part-time lifestyler smile.

Cara Delevingne & Vogue…Again

The fall issue of any Vogue is always a big deal. It has now been revealed one of the biggest models in the fashion world, Cara Delevingne is wearing Nicolas Ghesquiere’s first-ever Louis Vuitton collection on the cover of U.K. Vogue’s September issue. Vogue is boasting that this four hundred and sixty two page book is their biggest ever published, featuring the most fashion shoots they ever have. Supposedly all fashion designers’ (or at least the ones who matter) autumn/winter 2014 collections are in the magazine-a first ever-making the September issue the Vogue-to-go-to for what is coming for our wardrobes.

But it also seems Delevingne it seems is enjoying quite a relationship with Vogue of late.

The British supermodel has been photographed by Mario Testino in the inside pictures (an interview with the young woman appears in the magazine) with her shots reminiscent of the 60’s-influenced pictures she took for the July U.S. issue. In fact much is being made about the fact that Delevingne is wearing the same hair and makeup-and the same Vuitton styles-causing many to wonder if these ‘new’ pictures in the September UK Vogue aren’t from the earlier shoot (not such an unusual practice of course for other mags….but for Vogue?)

Twenty one year old Delevingne is well known for posting jet-setting pictures and video of her glamorous young life where she not only has managed two other Vogue covers (in the past year and half) but also fronts the upcoming campaigns for Topshop and Mulberry, to name a few

Just to be clear here and not to damn Cara for too many Vogue covers in too short a time, Kate Moss has 34 covers under her belt. And whether her September pictures have been hanging around a bit does not change the fact that Cara Delevingne wearing Nicolas Ghesquiere for Louis Vuitton in U.K. Vogue is a big deal.
