Oscar Outfits

jennifer garnerWith I, Tonya star, Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie wearing a custom-made Karl Lagerfeld that took 550 hours to create, one can assume that the haute couture at this year’s 90th Academy Awards was something special.

It was.

Beyond Robbie’s bespoke white corseted Chanel Haute Couture the highlights this Sunday past are many. First and foremost, despite #MeToo and #TimesUp, the ladies of the night were back to big bright color, mostly. Nicole Kidman wore a navy Aramani Prive. Sporting a big bow at its front she looked like the prettiest package. Jennifer Garner sported blue as well, more electric actually, than Kidman. With its long train, bare arms and made of flowy chiffon, the lady was picked up plenty for red carpet banter and inside the show, she even has garnered the most famous meme of the night so far, stunning in her Atelier Versace. Armie Hammer, who followed Jimmy Kimmel to shoot hotdogs later on at a surprised theatre crowd sported a raspberry-colored velvet Armani suit. Ashley Judd went simple style and plum in her Badgley Mischka and talk-show host Kelly Ripa wore a Christian Siriano that trailed a train of bright colors springing from a bow.

Beyond all the bright colors…

Taraji P. Henson wore maybe the sexiest cut-out dress of the night, In her Vera Wang, the actress showed neck, side, arms and leg. Haley Bennett was in a Dio mostly, seemingly, made of grass. Adam Rippon, Olympic skating star, wore a alt. Moschino suit with leather straps over cut out shoulders. And Salma Hayek may have opted for the ‘least subtle’ wardrobe choice of the night. She was in a lilac sequined tiered skirt, toga top Gucci with crystal shoulder chains draping down her considerable cleavage.

But the winner for style and panache has to go to 86-year-old Rita Moreno. She wore the same dress she had one for the Oscar’s in 1962 when she won best actress for a supporting role for “West Side Story.”
